What is the UK doing to help homeowners fit heat pumps?

Part 4 of a 5-part series

The government wants homeowners to ditch their traditional boilers and fit heat pumps instead. That’s why it will be handing out £5,000 grants from next April.

The grants are part of the government’s £450 million boiler scrappage plan.

It’s all part of a bigger plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The government has said it wants to make heat pumps as cost-effective as gas boilers by 2030.

And the hope is that homeowners will notice a drop in price by between 25 and 50% in the next few years.

In a statement, Boris Johnson said: “As we clean up the way we heat our homes over the next decade, we are backing our brilliant innovators to make clean technology like heat pumps as cheap to buy and run as gas boilers”.
